    RAILWAYS


    Spain has an extensive railroad system with fast and comfortable trains. The national network is known as RENFE. You may visit their Web site for itineraries and schedule information: http://www.renfe.es.

    AVE is a high-speed train which travels between Madrid and Seville, going through Ciudad Real, Puertollano and Córdoba. This ultramoderm train, which travels at speeds of up to 185 miles per hour, makes the Madrid- Seville run in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

    TALGO 200 is a fast train which travels from Madrid to Málaga-Torremolinos-Fuengirola in 4 hours and 35 minutes. This ultramodern train also covers the Madrid- Cádiz and Madrid-Huelva routes as well as the Madrid- Algeciras route.

    ALARIS is an ultramodern train that covers the Madrid-Albacete-Valencia route in 3 hours and 30 minutes; some departures with stops in Alcázar de San Juan, Xátiva, Gandía and Castelló.

    EUROMED is another ultramodern train that covers the Barcelona-Valencia-Alacant route in 4 hours and 35 minutes; some departures with stops in Tarragona and Castelló.

There are five sleeping cars with grand-deluxe bedroom/salon accommodations.     EL TRANSCANTABRICO, another sightseeing train, covers the northern and northwestern coastal regions known as Green Spain, from San Sebastián to Santiago de Compostela. This charming and fully equipped train runs along the narrow-gauge FEVE lines.     FEVE is the rail company that runs the older narrow-gauge railways still in use in Spain. They offer commuter services in northern Spain around Ferrol, Oviedo, Gijón, Santander, Torrelavega, and Bilbao. They also run the sightseeing train El Transcantábrico.

     
    BUSES

    Bus service in Spain is confortable and efficient. Although there are many lines which cover long distances, buses are especially recommended for short trips and for excursions from major tourist centers.

    An international driver's license is officially required to drive in Spain and can be obtained at the AAA. Minimum driving age in Spain is 18, but each car rental company has its own policy on age requirements.
